Glowing Houses Christmas Card Set

These cards open on a winter night where every window is lit and the cold outside only makes the warmth inside more visible. A lamplit mansion, a carriage just arrived, figures at the door, the whole scene is the moment before you go in, when you can see that this night belongs to everyone on the street at once.

The image comes from a chromolithograph by Joseph Hoover, Philadelphia, late 1800s. He was putting color on walls that had never had it, pictures warm enough that people bought them in summer and felt something every time they looked up. This card has been doing the same thing for a long time.

There is no text on the front. The scene carries it. If the feeling is the message, nothing needs to be added.

December has a way of arriving before it feels like anything yet. This is the picture of the feeling you were reaching for, and you will have 24 of them, each 4 x 5.5 inches, blank inside, designed and printed in Columbus, Ohio.
